The 50-word pitch

Weft is a calm personal CRM for iOS 26, made by one developer in Tokyo. Built for a small circle — friends, family, inner circle — rather than the networker's Rolodex. Local-first, no cloud AI, no streaks. Free for 7 people; Premium supports unlimited people at $18.99/year or $39.99 lifetime.

The 200-word pitch

Weft (getweft.xyz) is a personal CRM that does the opposite of most products in the category. Where Dex and Clay are built for networkers managing thousands of contacts with LinkedIn enrichment and broadcast follow-ups, Weft is designed around a small circle — close friends, family, the people you genuinely love. The free tier supports seven people and Premium is unlimited.

The constraints are unusual for a venture-funded space: no AI summarization (cloud LLMs do not read or write your notes), no contact import (you add people one at a time), on-device SwiftData storage, and private CloudKit sync for Premium, encrypted in transit and at rest. Weft has no notes backend and cannot access private CloudKit records. The vocabulary is borrowed from journaling — notes, threads, rhythm — instead of sales.

Weft was built by a single indie developer in Tokyo over eight weeks. Free for up to 7 people forever; all three Siri & Shortcuts actions, lock-screen widgets, and all three home-screen widget sizes are free. Premium is $18.99/year, $2.99/month, or $39.99 once and unlocks unlimited people, private iCloud sync, photo memories, exports, and full reasons plus the caught-up action in the large widget. Bilingual (English + 日本語) with system-language auto-detection.

Founder bio

Weft is built by amuwal, an indie iOS developer based in Tokyo. Background in software engineering; first independent product. Reachable directly at [email protected]. Available for short interviews (email or async); not currently available for live podcasts in the launch window.

Key story angles for coverage

  • The anti-CRM personal CRM: a product that explicitly rejects "track," "engagement," "streak" in its UI vocabulary, banned via SwiftLint custom rules in the codebase.
  • Calm tech in the AI era: the deliberate refusal to add AI summarization in a category where it has become table stakes (Clay, AI Friend, etc.).
  • Indie pricing vs VC pricing: Weft at $18.99/yr (or $39.99 once for life) vs Dex at $144/yr — and the structural reason for the gap.
  • Small-circle design: seven people free, unlimited Premium, but no contact import or LinkedIn enrichment; people are added manually and the vocabulary stays closer to a journal than a sales tool.
  • iOS 26 native features: Liquid Glass throughout, free lock-screen widgets and all three home-screen sizes, three free Siri & Shortcuts actions, and private CloudKit sync for Premium. Premium adds full reasons and the caught-up action in the large widget.
  • Bilingual launch: indie iOS apps rarely localize at launch; Weft ships with full English + Japanese support and runtime language switching.
