How to use it
There is no right order and no schedule to keep. Some weeks you'll ask no one, and that's fine. The questions move loosely with the seasons — beginnings in winter, opening up in spring, ease in summer, gathering in toward the end of the year — but a good question keeps in any month. Skip the ones that don't fit. Re-ask the ones that do.
Winter
Weeks 1–13 · beginnings
The quiet part of the year. Questions about what's starting, what someone is carrying, and what they're hoping the months ahead will hold.
- What's something small you're looking forward to this month?
- Is there anything you've been carrying on your own lately?
- What did you change your mind about this past year?
- Who's been good to you recently — and have you told them?
- What's a part of your ordinary day that you actually like?
- Is there a decision you keep putting off?
- What's been on your mind on the drive home lately?
- What did your family always do this time of year?
- What would a genuinely good month look like for you?
- Is there something you wish people understood about you?
- What's the last thing that made you cry — happy or sad?
- Who from your past do you find yourself thinking about?
- What feels heavier right now than it probably should?
Spring
Weeks 14–26 · opening up
Questions that let a little more light in — about hopes, change, the people who shaped someone, and the things they've quietly wanted.
- What do you want this year that you didn't a year ago?
- When did you last feel proud of yourself, and for what?
- Who taught you something you still carry?
- What's a small risk you've been thinking about taking?
- What's a place you'd go back to if you could?
- What were you like as a kid — and what's left of that?
- Is there something you've finally forgiven yourself for?
- What's a friendship you wish you'd kept?
- What's been making you laugh lately?
- What do you do when no one's asking anything of you?
- What's a kindness someone did for you that you've never forgotten?
- What's changed about how you see your parents?
- What would you say to yourself five years ago?
Summer
Weeks 27–39 · ease
Lighter on purpose — joy, play, the everyday textures of a life. The questions you can ask at a picnic table without it getting heavy.
- What's the best day you've had this year so far?
- What's a small thing that reliably makes you happy?
- What are you reading, watching, or listening to lately?
- Where do you feel most like yourself?
- What's a meal that means something to you?
- What's something you're surprisingly good at?
- What did you want to be when you were ten?
- What's a trip — real or imagined — you keep daydreaming about?
- Who makes you feel completely at ease?
- What's a habit you've picked up that you're glad about?
- What's a song that takes you somewhere?
- What's the most fun you've had lately that cost nothing?
- What's something you'd love to learn just for the joy of it?
Autumn
Weeks 40–52 · gathering in
The turn toward home and reflection. Questions about what someone is grateful for, what they're letting go of, and where they'd like to be held a little closer.
- What are you quietly grateful for right now?
- What's something you'd like to do more of before the year ends?
- Who do you wish you saw more often?
- What's a worry that turned out to be smaller than you feared?
- What are you ready to let go of?
- When did you last feel truly understood by someone?
- What does it look like, for you, when someone gets it right?
- What's a tradition you'd like to keep — or start?
- What's the kindest thing you did for someone this year?
- What do you hope is different by this time next year?
- Is there anything you've been meaning to say to me?
- What's a memory of us you find yourself coming back to?
- Is there a way I could be a better friend to you?
